Amherst first developed a club lacrosse program in 1986, while interest increases with each passing year. In 2005, the club was required to make cuts for the first time, as over 80 students came out for the team. This was repeated in 2006, and in this past year over 100 students competed for a spot on the team.  For the first time in the club’s history, the overwhelming level of interest has led to the formation of a second team. The two teams are comprised of students from all over the Northeast, including high school All-Americans, League and State All-Stars, and State Champions. They come to UMass with vast experience and skill as well as a strong record of success.

In the last few years our schedule has developed in strength and size, growing from eight local games to eighteen games. One team will compete in the North East Collegiate Lacrosse League (NECLL), defending our league and championship title. The NECLL includes schools such as Western New England College, Westfield State, Dartmouth, Tufts, and UVM. The other team will compete against schools from the Pioneer Lacrosse league. In addition, we will also compete against the Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University, and Harvard University varsity lacrosse programs.
