Interneck
Bentley College's Circle K Club put on a raging InterNECK this year in Winthrop, Maine (if I may say so with the most unbiased opinion I can) on the weekend of the 17th of October.
The theme, "Oh, The Places You'll Go!", was represented by constant Suessian rhymes put together by Bentley's editor, Erica Black, and activities with titles such as, "The Hope on Pop Bop," "The Lorax Lunch," and the traditional Karaoke (well, maybe the outrageous outfits made this Suessian.)
Friday night was dedicated to Icebreakers, District Role Call, and waiting up for the, once again, traditional, latecomers. Circle K'ers came all the way from the Western Division…Mount Holyoke, UMASS Amherst, etc. as well as New England District's own International Trustee, Cathy Lenter, from Wisconsin. The evening ended with s'mores at the bonfire (thank Todd Muse for not burning down Camp Mechuwana!)
Saturday involved workshops put on by District Board members, Service Projects, football, a presentation on Service Learning by Pat Clark, Karaoke, and a dance. The workshops were meant to educate members about Circle K and provide some reasons for enthusiasm for not only service, but the organizational aspect. The service projects, well, I think they are really meant to give us a way to show off our physical prowess… dragging trees around and entering freezing cold water (only to be chased by muskrats, hehehe.) The Sunrise Etc. football team won once again in the ongoing rivalry with Back Bay Etc. (but for some obscure reason, I'm not going to focus on that;) Remember that if your school does not already have Service Learning, your Circle K Club can begin the program. Contact Pat Clark for more information. Karaoke… what more can be said? If you missed it, shame! Shame!
Sunday, the friendship circle was formed and good-bye's were said, minus music.
Well Circle K'ers, it was my first time at InterNECK, it was a blast, I hope to see you (if I'm in America) at next year's InterNECK Convention!
K iwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute (otherwise known as KPTI) hosted New England District Circle K'ers on Saturday, November 1, the annual KPTI Day. About 110 people, including Circle K'ers, showed up to the hospital for which our District fund-raises.
Service Project Chair, Andrea Correira organized this year's KPTI day. Kiwanians introduced the history of the Institute in the morning and Andrea spoke about Project B.E.L.T.S. (Because Everyone Loves To be Safe). B.E.L.T.S. is a program, run by Circle K'ers, which has begun to run this fall, in elementary schools. The program is meant to prevent traumatic injuries to children. By educating children about the importance of wearing seat belts, and wearing them properly, we can diminish the need for institutes such as KPTI.
As traumatic injuries in children will continue, KPTI
will continue to provide beds and treatment for any child who has experienced
trauma, regardless of the age of the child. KPTI Day was a fantastic, though
emotional, way to see our fund-raising efforts at work.

you plan on attending the International Convention this summer? It's time
to listen for the new OTIC Chair's instructions. If you have questions,
you can now contact Sue LaPoint, New England District's "On To International
Convention" Chair, who will be providing you with news from International
Headquarters, as it is received. Plan ahead, as next year's convention
will no doubt match, if not surpass, this year's excellent convention in
Chicago!

Hi there! This autumn has been packed with District and Club events-I hope everyone participated as much as you hoped to. I had a blast at FOCUS, InterNECK, KPTI Day.
I have particularly enjoyed reading stories to children at the local library, collecting items for a Bubble Drive (a.k.a.: meeting people in other dorms), and work on the Lobster Tales.
Some things to take note of: if you need to contact another Circle K Club, you can find the e-board's phone numbers in the Kiwanis Family Directory (produced by Liz Kane) which you can ::politely:: borrow from your club President, VP, etc. If you need to contact a member of the District Board, you might do the same thing, or check out an edition of this year's Lobster Tales, or browse Circle K websites.
If you are experiencing burn-out… when you are experiencing burnout;) give somebody a call; another member, your Prez, LTG, whomever. Circle K is foremost about the member. Without members, how can service be done? Don't sink into the quagmire!!! Do something social with your club, something motivational… (and then let me know how it turned out!!!)
Photos, photos, photos. I know that there are some crazy photos out there. I would particularly appreciate shots of Circle K'ers doing service. This year the emphasis is on service. Leadership and fellowship are as important, but its the service which makes this organization unique. It is the reason I joined, it is the reason I stay.
Well, I am off to get some school work done and contemplate my future… or maybe I'll just do the homework.
Rock on Circle K!
In Spirit and Service,
Your editor, Jayne Reuter
