Minutes for April 23, 1997

Regular Meeting: Campus Center Basement, University of Massachusetts Circle K Members Present: Suzanne, Rob, Corinne, Jenny, Katerina, Erin, Aimee and Mo.

Minutes: First of all, I read the minutes. Suzanne then gave the information about the Amherst Survival Center to Katerina for her to look over and report on at the next officer's meeting aka staff aka e-board. Erin also added that she had gone to the Survival Center and had a good time. She reported that the man in charge is ver y eager for our help. Suzanne was then going to ask if anyone wanted to apply for any positions, but seeing as how everyone there already has one, or is an officer, we just kind of left that one alone. Rob and I then reported on how cool it was to dine with the Kiwanians. They were very impressed with all the things we are doing and hey! We should be proud of us too. I think it's a great idea that we will have two different members attending their meetings each week. They even gave Rob (tiny) some of the extra birthday cake from Bob's wife's birthday cake!

Rob reported that his buddy John says we have to pay a fee of 5% of our profits to the C.R.C. if we are going to participate. The other option is to pay a lot more to the town. We voted unanimously (many aye's) to pay the 5% profits. Rob would also like to meet with all the committee chairs and because of the large numbers, will have to rent out the Franklin DC to accommodate all the committee chair persons.

Katerina says she will have the news letter in by next meeting (that would be today). She prolonged the date because Erin is going to write an article about the Southwest cleanup success. We then reviewed the plethora of ideas for the T-shirt. We voted on Aaron's design for the front breast pocket (which indecently, no one has seen or can describe...but hey! We trust him!) and the back will contain the quote "Strange things are afoot at the Circle K..." from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure -- the screaming eighties movie we all know and love.

Aimee is going to talk to the shirt man this week and the shirt will be white with blue or black writing depending on which is cheaper. We estimate the cost to be around $10.

We then discussed the service project for this weekend (which by now we will already have done, but still...) Friday we will meet in the Johnson basement kitchen at 6:00 p.m. to make the baked goods for the following Saturday's bake sale! Everyone is asked to bring whatever cooking utensils they might have -- spoons, pan et.

Saturday we will be cleaning up the wooden park (we think). We are meeting at the park bright and early at 8:30 a.m.!!! Drink lots of coffee...We will be bused to our playground and then attend a party afterwards with pizza. But we may have to leave early because we have to go to the bake sale on the Amherst commons. The food and posters will be stored in Suzanne's car with the card table.

Erin discussed the Southwest cleanup success and mentioned how this could become our weekly project.

Suzanne then added that she has spoken with an on-campus grounds person and perhaps we can adopt-a-garden. We could ask local businesses to donate plants. Perhaps even make this a campus wide activity involving other clubs to do the same. This was unanimously voted "eye" and Suzanne said she will discuss with the man and get back to us on that one.

Tashamma is going to follow up on the Credit Card sham -- what with the bad checks and all...and let us know soon. We are having our instillation (which would be right now...) on Wednesday April 30th at 7:00 p.m. at Mo's house. Mo lives at 5 Presidential and for those who have no idea what that is, there will be a small band of persons leaving from Northeast that evening with one person who has a clue. It will be a pot-luck dinner with cake (Corinne) lasagna (Mo) salad (Suzanne) cups (Aaron) napkins, silverware and plates (Erin) something I can't pronounce or spell (Katerina) bread and butter (Rob) cran-rasberry juice, gingerale and diet Coke (Jenny). We are inviting our Kiwanians, so hopefully we will have a total of about 15 people! The dress is snappy, no jeans or cut out pants...Corinne. And that's about all from your friendly neighborhood secretary.
