Minutes for April 16, 1997

Regular Meeting: Campus Center Basement -- University of Massachusetts Circle K
Members Present: Suzanne, Rob, Corinne, Jenny, Katerina, Erin, Aimee, Kevin and Mo.
Official Minutes: First, I read the minutes! There's a shocker for ya. Rob announced the new committee chairs -- Service Chair = Erin K-Family Relations = Aimee. I bet absolutely no one saw that coming. Rob warned the new chairs of their responsibilities and that they can come to Rob for any questions or foot rubs. We do still need a co-finance chair (you get to work with the fabulous Corinne) and a Membership Recruitment Development Education Retention (MRDER) chair. Suzanne suggested that if we don't get some responses soon, we should start nominating persons for these positions (Kevin...). Then the members that went to the Bentley Fun-Day commented on what a fabulous time they had. Rob, Suzanne, Aimee and I all went. PLUS!!! Our new member Akikoy (pronounced O-key-ko). She came with us to the Fun Day and had a great time. Akikoy can't make the meetings on Wednesday due to class conflict, but she would like to do service projects with us. She is really very nice and smiles a lot. I am very excited for her to meet the rest of the gang at the next project this weekend!

Corinne then started talking about the budget. It seems the retarded people still don't have it done. Theoretically, they will be done next week, on Wednesday. Guess we'll find out then! I mean, it's only been like two weeks already -- what's another? Corinne and I had checked food prices for the Baked Sale this weekend at Amherst Day. We are going to buy the materials at the Big Y this week. The total is about $20 which we can take out of the Kiwanis Can of Healing so we won't have to deal with the freakin' purchase order crap. A few people volunteered to bring their own brownie mix which for some reason, people seem to have at college...no comments. We will be baking all the good on Friday night in Johnson Hall's Kitchen in Northeast. We will schedule the time at this meeting right now and just to mention we voted on the $20 from the can o healing, and it was a unanimous bunch of aye's spelled with an a.

Katerina had talked with a guy from the Amherst Survival Center. He is really excited about us helping out. He is going to send us mucho information to our mailbox. Katerina then asked what our mailbox number was, and Corinne told her. Suzanne said she will be getting the money from the Credit Card sham soon. A later update: I was on the scene when Aaron gave Corinne the checks from Tashamma from the Credit sham. The total was a lot. Corinne knows and I'm sure will say so soon. I don't want to ruin that for her. : ) Kiwanis has budgeted two people a week to visit them at their meetings -- the budget is for the $6 meal of soup and sandwiches. They have meetings on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm at Greenfield Community College. We all decided collectively, that if we don't hear from Tashamma, we will have instillation on the 30th of April. Bob, the pres of Kiwanis will speak at it and we will finally get our freakin' pins?! Suzanne then distributed a copy of the office hours except she spelled Corinne wrong! Opps.

Earthday (Saturday the 19th) we are cleaning up Southwest from 1:30 - 3:15pm. Come one, come all! Later update: the day was a success, and lots of ideas came from it, but I will let Erin tell you her outstanding ideas in moment. I would like to say congratulations on the outstanding success of Erin's first service project. Into Amherst Day is April 26th. We will be doing one of three service projects -- 1. Sanding and staining a wooden park at the Fort River School 2. Maintenance work at the Wildwood School like filling in holes, picking up trash, raking gravel ect. Or 3. Spring cleaning at the Amherst Survival Center, like planting flowers, cleaning windows ect. We will know later this week which one we got. Oh boy! That will be from 9:00am to 1:00pm and then we will have the bake sale afterwards. We do need to make signs and stuff for the table, perhaps we can do that the night we bake. Suzanne is generously donating her card table for the cause. : )

At this point there was a strange gentleman who wanted to give us a message that would change our lives. We are not sure if he was high on something, drunk or just weird in general. But we told him now was not a good time and we all had a good laugh. We should have asked him to put some coins in the Kiwanis Can o' Healing! The Walk for Hunger is May 4th. We will be going and maybe staying the night before with other Circle K-ers in the Boston area. We will be getting the pledge sheets soon. Perhaps we will have our t-shirts by then. Everyone is supposed to come up with an idea for the shirt and we will try to have them done by the walk. They will probably be about $10 each or so, depending on how cool they are. We are also doing the Spring Concert here at Umass the weekend of my sister's graduation -- May 10th in the afternoon. You guys will be security and the bonus is a free t-shirt.

Kiwanis auction is May 7th and 8th. Everyone should try to remember when they signed up for. I will remind you what days you said you'd do when it gets closer. Sacred Heart's Charter Banquet is April 27th at 5:00pm. The cost is the low price of $5. Mt. Holyoak's is April 29th for only $10!!! Start saving now. Those attending need to basically dress up and cheer and give them money. I am so exhausted from typing all this, I hope you are still awake! That's all from the desk of your friendly neighborhood secretary.

-Jennifer
