Minutes for 10 December 1997

The University of Massachusetts, Amherst Circle K
10 December 1997
Instillation! At Suzanne and Aimee's appartment

Twas the last meeting of the semester and all through the place,
The Circle K-ers were sitting with smiles on their face.
There plates were all full with goodies and sweets
Made by their friends; they were damn good eats.
The presents were under the table with care,
Small gifts each one bought with in which to share.
The members were snuggled on the floor or in chairs
In hopes that Kiwanians soon would be there.
And I with my minutes and gavel and meal
Had just settled down to get on with the deal.
Then on door I heard such a clatter,
Twas Kiwanians coming with cookies on platters.
In they all came with a large wrapped gift
And smiles on their faces that gave us a lift.
I threw up my hands to start the whole thing
And up stood Suzanne and Corinne with the pins.
Together they annouced each new member out-loud,
As I watching in wonder, beaming; I was so proud.
"First Dr. Ted, Katerina and Kevin,
Michael, Dawn, Amy and Jason and Erin.
Next Becky and Laura and Stephanie too
Then Amanda, Andrea and Ben the last two:
Lauren and Heather. We all applauded,
For each and everyone, they had been install-ed.

Then what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a gift from us to our Kiwanians dear.
A brand new gavel with engraving shining
For we found that their old one was really quite frighting.
Then President Dave with his eyes all a-glow,
Handed Suzanne a gift from them. Well wouldn't you know!
They had bought us a gavel, engraved and a bell:
With special felt pads: it must be a spell!
But it was true and as we all clapped with glee
They stood and watched us quite cheerfully.
Then the meeting was over, adjoured by the ring
Of our brand new bell by the beautiful ping.
And I heard everyone exclaim as they walked through the prairie,
Happy Holidays all!
Love, your friendly neighborhood secretary.
