UMass Amherst Ballroom Dance

The Ballroom Dance Social is rapidly approaching! Please come this Wednesday, April 30th, to the Student Union Ballroom to join in the fun. The festivities begin at 6:00 pm with a performance by the Doo Wop Shop. There will be social dancing to participate in, as well as performances by several dance groups, including Dynamic Motion, Callena, The Figure 8 Bellydance Club, The Breakdancing Club, Sasa, The Step Team, Crazy Legs, Boricuas Unidos, and the Smith Bellydance Group. In addition, we will be teaching salsa with a rueda, which is a group dance that's lots of fun. At 9:00 pm, there will be a fun dance competition--no experience necessary! The winning couple will receive free dance team t-shirts, and the five other finalists will get two free passes to club. Dinner will be available. We will also have an after party lasting until midnight. The cost is $3 for club members (you will need to bring your club membership card), $5 for students (who show student ID), and $7 for general admission.

The results of tryouts have been calculated, and we are happy to welcome the following people to the UMass Ballroom Dance Team! To let us know you plan to be a team member it is IMPERATIVE that you email us at ballroom@stuaf.umass.edu by Friday night at 11:59pm to let us know that you plan to join the team. If you do not email us by then you will forfeit your spot on the team. This weekend we will reply with directions on how to join our team email group as well as information about your first practice time and location. Tryouts Announced!

We are pleased to announce that our tryout date for the Spring 2008 semester has been finalized! They will be held from 6-9pm on Wednesday, Febuary 13th 2008 in the UMass Student Union Ballroom. If you plan to attend please plan on being there a little early as we will start promptly at 6pm.

In addition to the tryouts, you can also find us at a table in the Campus Center during the first week of classes. Feel free to drop by if you have any questions or just to say 'Hi!'.

Monday Night Club: You're Invited!

Swing into the Spring semester with the Ballroom Dance Team on Monday February 4th at the Fine Arts Center from 7-9pm. The first week we'll teach you how to swing during the first hour and then open the floor for you to practice your new moves for the next hour. Club dances are offered every Monday throughout the semester so if swings not your thing check out the calendar to see what else is being offered and when.

Results From the Harvard Beginers Competition Are Up

Congratulations to all the competitiors, you guys did fantastic! If you missed the UMBDT at the Harvard Beginers Competition you can catch them this Sunday (11/11) at the Brown Ballroom Dance Competition.

UConn Ballroom Dance Competition Results and Calendar Update

This weekend the Ballroom Dance Team headed off to the University of Connecticut for their 10th annual ballroom competiton. Everybody danced very well, the results are posted on the results page to the left. I have also updated the calendar for November. More Newcomer routines have also been posted, so have a look!

Routines Posted

Today I posted all of the teams routines for newcomer, bronze and silver. They are not all up yet, but these were the ones I got from the coaches. I have also updated the calendar to show practice times and made a note at the bottom about upcoming competitions in November and December.
