What is Amnesty International?

Amnesty International is a human rights group that is dedicated to the freeing of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in countries throughout the world.

The U Mass chapter reinstated in 1995 under the current coordinator Maureen Sheehan. Last year the group worked on the China campaign, which raised awareness of human rights abuses in that country. The year culminated with a presentation by renouned independent film-maker Bill Carter. His documentary Miss Sarajevo chronicled life behind the lines of the Bosian civil war.
