Wind Power: Tunnels, Turbines and Testing
The grate on the UMass Amherst wind tunnel ensures that winds flow straight and smooth through the tunnel, which is used to conduct wind turbine wake experiments, array studies and calibrate meteorological sensors. The Wind Energy Center operates the wind tunnel in collaboration with the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department and it is used by faculty and students conducting cutting edge research to develop wind technologies and address issues of reliability, performance and cost. The Wind Energy Center is a national leader in wind energy education, research and service to government and industry. Learn More
