Super-Adhesion: No Longer Just for Geckos

Scientists working in Alfred Crosby’s polymer science and engineering lab have developed “Geckskin,” a device about the size of an index card that can hold up to 700 pounds while adhering to a smooth surface, be released with a gentle tug and be reused many times with no loss of effectiveness. Unlike previous projects, the team’s design takes into account the complexity of the entire gecko foot, mimicking its tendons, bones, and skin. The potential applications of the technology in the home, medical, and industrial sectors are enormous. Learn more.
