For the Record: Using Digital Technologies to Enhance the Archaeological Record
The image above shows a detail of a digital model created as part of the Pompeii Quadriporticus Project. This archaeological and architectural research project combines cutting edge technologies to improve fieldwork, analysis and interpretation of the archaeological record. In a related bibliographic and mapping project, researchers are developing an exhaustive subject repository made searchable through GIS. Together, these create a unique and powerful research tool available to the public and other researchers. Both projects are co-directed by UMass Amherst Classics Professor and archaeologist Eric Poehler, a member of the UMass Digital Humanities Initiative. Learn more.
