Cloud Clusters: The Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center
The image above shows a glimpse inside the state-of-the-art high performance computing center based in Holyoke, Massachusetts and built by a consortium of researchers at UMass Amherst, MIT, Boston University, Northeastern University, and Harvard University with support from NSF, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and industry partners EMC and Cisco. The new cluster or “academic cloud” will link thousands of servers and enable scientists to carry out high volume, extremely rapid calculations while storing vast amounts of data, essential for big data initiatives such as genomics research, computational engineering, and climate modeling. The computational infrastructure and innovative collaboration will be a key driver in the state's innovation economy and serve as a model as the first facility of its kind in the nation. Learn more.
