The image above depicts a detail from the painting Cosmological Formations, series IV, VII (2013) by artist, curator, and UMass Amherst alumna Kim Carlino. The media is watercolor and ink on yupo. Carlino’s work explores the tension between the fluid organic forms of the natural world and the imprint of man-made structures. Along with a number of former students who are now art professionals, Carlino honed her curation skills in the student internship program at the University Museum of Contemporary Art, a learning museum that offers students the opportunity to conduct research and scholarly activity related to museum curation.
