UMass CITI Training Module Requirements

Investigators, including faculty, staff students, directly involved in research with human subjects are required to complete an education program in human subjects protection. Completion of required CITI training modules listed below fulfills the UMass requirements for investigator training (NOTE: Investigators taking the training for the first time must take the CITI training basic course. Investigators whose CITI training was first completed over 5 years ago must take the refresher course):

 Biomedical Research Investigators and Key Personnel - Basic Course Modules (Group 1)

  • History and Ethical Principles
  • Basic Institutional Review Board (IRB) Regulations and Review Process
  • Informed Consent
  • Social Behavioral Research for Biomedical Researchers
  • Records Based Research
  • Research with Protected Populations - Vulnerable Subjects: An Overview
  • Conflicts of Interest in Research Involving Human Subjects
  • Unanticipated Problems and Reporting Requirements in Biomedical Research
  • University of Massachusetts Amherst

In addition, please review other modules appropriate to your area of research.

Social  and Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel (Group 2)

  • Introduction

  • Defining Research with Human Subjects – SBR
  • The Regulations and the Social Behavioral Sciences – SBR
  • Assessing Risk in Social Behavioral Sciences
  • Informed Consent
  • Privacy and Confidentiality – SBR

You must receive a score of 80% or better overall in order to pass this course.  If you receive less than 80% you  will need to retake one or more quizzes to improve your score to 80% overall.

After you complete all required modules you will be able to print/download a course completion report from the site.
