New to Campus

Research and Engagement provides a wide variety of support services for faculty and other researchers new to the UMass Amherst campus.

All researchers who plan to apply for sponsored activities are required to use the campus electronic system which is accessed with UMass credentials. Obtaining these ID numbers can be done in advance of arriving on campus. Please see Access to OGCA Electronic Data Systems for more information. All proposals to external funding sources in support of sponsored programs, are submitted by the Office of Grant and Contract Administration (OGCA). View the University policy.

Proposals are due to the OGCA five working days before the sponsor deadline. Please review the Five-Day Proposal Submission Procedure Overview to become acquainted with the procedure. For assistance and questions please contact the appropriate member of the OGCA Pre-award team. Principal Investigators have specific Roles and Responsibilities that may be reviewed in the policy and the Roles and Responsibilities matrix.

Staff in the Office of Research Development and the Research Business Managers Network are available to assist new faculty and other researchers in proposal development and project management.

The units of Research and Engagement also host a variety of workshops and trainings to assist researchers in developing competitive proposals, effectively manage projects, and comply with all University, state and federal requirements while carrying out research.
