The Community of Science funding opportunities database contains a number of corporate funding opportunities that may be of interest to campus researchers.   The following funding opportunities have specific interest to the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus. The Device Sciences area of the Semiconductor Research Corporation Global Research Collaboration is soliciting white papers in Analog and Mixed-Signal Devices. Two page white papers addressing needs in a new research needs document are due December 4, 2008 by 3:00PM EST. A limited number of full proposals will be accepted based on the white paper submissions and a subset of these proposals will be selected for anticipated two-year contracts beginning July 1, 2009. The Device Sciences area of the Semiconductor Research Corporation Global Research Collaboration is soliciting white papers in Memory Technologies. A limited number of full proposals will be accepted based on the white paper submissions and a subset of these proposals will be selected for anticipated two-year contracts beginning July 1, 2009, rather than the normal three-year due to some special circumstances. 2009-2010 IBM Herman Goldstine Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mathematical Sciences

The Business Analytics and Mathematical Sciences Department of the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center invites applications for its 2009-2010 Herman Goldstine Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship for research in mathematical and computer sciences. The fellowship provides scientists of outstanding ability an opportunity to advance their scholarship as resident department members at the Research Center. The Research Center is located in Westchester County, less than an hour north of New York City.

Applications will be accepted between October 15, 2008 and January 5, 2009 via e-mail only. The complete application must be sent as a single e-mail to goldpost@watson.ibm.com. The subject field of the application should contain the string "2009 Goldstine Application". The e-mail should have the following files attached:

  • Complete and attach the application profile
  • attach your full CV
  • Attach the abstract of your Ph.D. dissertation
  • Prepare and attach a 2-3 page research statement describing your current research and the research plan that you would like to pursue if offered the fellowship
  • Finally, you must attach up to three of your most important papers. To facilitate handling, in the applicant profile, please give the names of the files/documents which contain your CV, Ph.D. dissertation abstract, research statement, and important papers.

Applicants are also asked to send three or more letters of recommendation, including one from the thesis advisor. The letters must be e-mailed to goldpost@watson.ibm.com, and should have "2009 Goldstine Recommendation Letter for <first name><last name>" in the subject field.
