Academic Liaison

What does the Academic Liaison have to offer?

Cutting-edge research projects have a responsibility to communicate their findings through innovative educational programs. If a project develops into a Research Center or Institute, most funding sources require an education component serving graduate and undergraduate, K-12, and lifelong learning as an integral part of center organization. Researchers, therefore, must consider their educational mission from the beginning of their planning.

The Academic Liaison works with scholars at the pre-proposal stage to design educational components and then may help with the initial implementation.

Faculty and staff would come to the Academic Liaison for help in these areas:

  • Information on successful models of interdisciplinary education programs, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics ( STEM ).
  • Models of educational components from funded projects (NSF and other).
  • Coordination with existing campus programs for increasing campus diversity, especially in STEM .
  • Consultation on proposal development.
  • Guidance about integrating educational goals with research initiatives; templates for program development.
  • Roadmaps for establishing new programs within our institution.
  • Contacts with program officers at funding agencies and other educational institutions.
  • Help in reporting benchmarks and progress in outside-the-classroom educational programs.
