Research Experience for Undergraduates (REUs) at UMass Amherst

Each summer the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus hosts several REU programs in a wide range of subject areas. The programs are sponsored by institutions like the National Science Foundation, Howard Hughes Medical Foundation, and the UMass Office of the Provost.

Below is a list of programs scheduled for Summer 2011. Subject matter, stipends, schedules, and application details can be found at the websites listed. There may also be REU opportunities for individuals in other labs. Students should contact The Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholarship (OURS) for help identifying opportunities.

Faculty with individual REU supplements (or those wishing to host undergraduates in their labs) should also contact the OURS liaison to let that office know about your lab as a potential research opportunity for students that consult them.  It is also a good idea to contact an allied REU site from the projects listed at the OURS site.  Very often, arrangements can be made for single REU "supplement" students to participate in the professional and social activities of a site.

Information on REU programs nationally can be found at the Pathways to Science website of the Institute for Broadening Participation in Science.

For further information, contact the Academic Liaison, in the Research Area, ORD, 413-545-5023 or OURS at 413-545-5334.
