Adobe Acrobat Reader Tips

Adobe's free Reader program (available on line by clicking here ) is a powerful tool for viewing documents in a PDF (Portable Document format) file on line. Here are a few brief tips on getting the most from your Reader:
  • The first three buttons across the top of the Reader Window allow you to view the document in one of three ways:

  • 1. Just the file: This will give you the largest view of the document.
    2. Bookmark: Any document created with bookmarks will show the bookmarks on the left hand side. They can be 'clicked' to navigate the document.
    3. Thumbnail: Any document created with thumbnails will display them on the left hand side. These are small pictures of each page that are 'clickable'.
  • The Hand button will give you the hand tool. Use it to "grab" the page and move it around inside the window so you can see the complete document. The hand will turn into a pointing hand when it's moved over a clickable link. This is the case with the OGCA Annual Report Table of Contents. Just point to where you want to go in the Table of Contents, click and go!
  • The Magnifying Glass button will let you zoom in and out on the document. (Hold down the Control Key (Win) or the Option Key (Mac) and click to zoom out.)
  • The Text tool is next. Use this to select text, then choose Copy from the File menu, and paste it in to your document.
  • The next six buttons are for navigation from page to page in the document. The first will take you to the first page of the document. The second one will move you back one page at a  time. The third moves forward one page at a time, and the fourth button moves you to the end of the document. The double Left Arrow will bring you to the previous page you were on, and the Double Right Arrow will move you back. Much in the same way as a web browser.
  • The next three buttons are for how the document is viewed. The first one will set the document to be viewed at 100%. the second will set the document to fit in the available window space and the third button will fit the width of the document in the available window space.
  • The Binoculars Button will bring up a search window. Type in a word that you are looking for and reader will bring you to the first instance. Click the button again to search for the second.
  • If you have problems loading in the graphics using Reader 3.x you can do one of two things:

  • Go Back to Annual Home Page
