IMPORTANT: Updated Foreign Influence Disclosure Guidance

Updated guidance from the UMass Office of the General Counsel for disclosures related to foreign influence on research is now available: Foreign Influence Disclosure Guidance for Federally Funded Research (PDF). This replaces the guidance in earlier messages sent on March 27, 2019 and March 28, 2019.

Principal Investigators, Project Directors, and Key Personnel on NIH and NSF projects should pay particular attention to the referenced notices issued by those agencies on July 10, 2019 (NIH) and July 11, 2019 (NSF), which provide clarification about required disclosures and participation in foreign government talent recruitment programs. The University strongly recommends that researchers seeking sponsorship from other federal agencies also disclose such information. Note that Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) disclosures can now be made electronically in the Kuali Research system.

A chart of contacts is available to provide guidance on federally-mandated disclosures and other compliance issues. Please contact the Office of Research Compliance with questions at: (413) 545-5283 or rescomp@research.umass.edu.
