Advanced Nursing Education Program
The purpose of the Advanced Nursing Education (ANE) Program is to provide Federal funding for projects that support the enhancement of advanced nursing education and practice. For FY13, HRSA invites applications for projects that integrate the care of individuals with Multiple Chronic Conditions (MCC) into interprofessional education opportunities for advanced nursing education students. Eligible projects would engage advanced nursing education students and other health occupation trainees in shared clinical and didactic learning opportunities to develop competency in the provision of comprehensive health care for individuals with MCC.
Chronic conditions are conditions that last a year or more and require ongoing medical attention and/or limit activities of daily living (US Department of Health &Human Services, 2010). They include both physical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and HIV infection, as well as mental and cognitive disorders such as ongoing depression, substance abuse and dementia. In this funding opportunity announcement MCC is defined as two or more concurrent chronic conditions.
To be deemed responsive to this funding opportunity announcement, eligible applicants offering advanced nursing education must describe projects addressing the health care needs of persons with multiple chronic conditions (MCC) that will be incorporated into advanced nursing education and conducted within an interprofessional education (IPE) model. The projects must engage other graduate health professionals and demonstrate the integration of IPE into the nursing clinical and didactic curriculum. The project should provide graduate nursing students with requisite knowledge of interprofessional learning and its potential relationship to quality health care for persons with MCC.
