Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is a University-wide review body that provides oversight over University operations and activities of a potentially biologically hazardous nature. The IBC reviews and approves research that involves potentially biohazardous materials (plant and animal pathogens, oncogenes, carcinogens, toxins and recombinant DNA), as required by University, State and Federal directives. The IBC currently has eleven members and meets at least four times a year. If you are unclear as to whether a material is a potential biohazard, contact the Biological Safety Officer in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) (545-2682).
