Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)IACUC Meeting and Training Schedules Whole animals continue to be required in many areas of research where complicated, multiple system interactions and effects of living organisms must be assessed. All research and teaching projects using vertebrate animals must be reviewed by the University's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), a Federally mandated committee. The IACUC ensures that all Federal and State regulations, Institutional Policies and IACUC Procedures & guidelines, on humane animal use and care are followed. The University is mandated by Federal regulations to provide training and education to ensure that investigators understand and comply with the provisions of the Animal Welfare Act, PHS policy and the National Research Council's Guide for the Care of Use of Laboratory Animals. As well as reviewing protocols, the IACUC approves and oversees quarters for animal housing conducts formal semi-annual reviews of programs, facilities and records as required by Federal law, and oversees an Occupational Health and Safety Program for animal users. |
