By its nature, research is unpredictable and ever‐changing. This coffee chat will provide specifics on post award actions and how to insure they are complaint with the sponsoring agencies terms and conditions. We will cover common changes such as rebudgeting, no cost extensions, changes in personnel, PI transfers, sabbaticals, and more. We will provide guidance on how these changes should be initiated, and who to contact. Time will be provided for specific questions and discussions.

Increasingly greater attention is being paid by the federal government to what types of data, information, and equipment are being studied and developed at universities. National security concerns have fueled the government’s growing interest in enforcing export restriction and the use of foreign nationals on university research projects.

Coffee Chat - Effort Commitment (TBD)

What is effort commitment? How should it be budgeted? When can it be used as cost
share? What is minimum effort and the University’s policy on it. Is effort the same as course
buyout? These and other questions will be answered in hopes of clarifying the University’s and
the government’s policies on effort and how to properly budget it in proposals and report on it
under an award.

OGCA Coffee Chat - E-Verify (Carol Sprague)

What is E‐Verify and how will it affect my ability to appoint personnel using my grant? The Department of Homeland Security has now introduced another employment verification process to insure that we will not hire any illegal aliens on federal funds. The new clause will be included in some government contracts that are in excess of $100,000 and have duration of at least 120 days. Please come in and learn what this requirement involves and how it may affect the hiring process on these contracts.
