Estimation and Removal of Clock Skew From Network Delay Measurements
Primary Inventors:
Don Towsley, Ph.D., P. Skelly, and S. Moon
Description:
Invention estimates and removes relative skew in synchronization between sender and receiver clocks that are so critical to the accurate assessment and analysis of network performance. A proprietary algorithm along with a linear programming approach gives a far better network managing and monitoring tool.
Applications:
- Internet/intranet monitoring tools
- Cell phones, video streaming, multicast transmission
- Can be incorporated in internet software and hardware as resident application
Advantages:
- Error margin of the skew is independent of the magnitude of the skew
- Skew estimates are superior to existing algorithms
- Highly accurate
