Guidelines for Submitting Research ACCESS Articles

(ACCESS staff have editorial privilege and will edit articles to adhere to guidelines when necessary.)

A Note about EVENTS:

As a rule, Research ACCESS publicizes events that are sponsored by the Vice Provost for Research and/or Research Area offices only. Occasionally we'll break the rules if we feel an event is so important to the campus research community that it makes sense for us to market it through ACCESS even though we are not a sponsor. Each ACCESS issue links directly to the campus' main event calendar located on the UMass Amherst home page.

STYLE:

The ACCESS style is to present information in a way that highlights the benefits to, or importance for, the reader. Include a "call to action" if possible... this helps your audience to proactively respond and take desired action.

CONTENT:

Put important information up front in the article. For example, if there is a looming deadline, include it in the first few lines of information.

LENGTH:

ACCESS articles should be short --one or two paragraphs if possible. Provide urls that point to additonal sources of information for important content that cannot be covered in a short article.

CONTACTS:

Provide name, phone, email or urls for the person/s who should be contacted if readers have questions or are searching for more information.

FORMAT:

Any application that allows cut/paste is acceptable (email, Word, html, PDF....).

SUBMISSION:

Via email to Karen Hayes (khayes@research.umass.edu).
