MRI-MRS PILOT RESEARCH GRANTSCALL FOR PROPOSALS
A new state-of-the-art human bioimaging facility has opened at the University Drive Health Center where it will be used for diagnostics by Cooley Dickinson Hospital and for research by UMass Amherst faculty. This facility is well-equipped for non-invasive analyses of tissue function, including but not limited to brain, muscle, and joints using:
The Office of Research has budgeted $60,000-$80,000 in each of the next 3 years to be used as seed money to fund ~3-4 pilot research projects per year to be conducted by members of the UMass Amherst faculty. These pilot projects (maximum $18,000) are intended to provide preliminary results to be used in subsequent federal or national-level grant proposals. Funded studies will be limited to those involving human subjects. Criteria to be used in evaluation of these proposals include: 1) The project is feasible and timely in nature and has as its main focus a question to be addressed by magnetic resonance imaging and proton spectroscopy techniques. 2) The research plan is well-constructed and presents a high likelihood of achieving its specific aims and objectives. 3) The project is designed to generate preliminary data that will increase competitiveness for more comprehensive extramural funding.
