REMP Students Selected for 2008 Summer Internships in Psychometrics and/or Measurement Policy

The Research and Evaluation Methods Program is pleased to announce that a number of doctoral students from the program have been selected for 2008 summer internships by agencies involved in psychometric methods and measurement policy. During their internships, the students will work with leaders in the testing field on different research and operational projects and begin to develop relationships within the larger measurement community. The students and their internships follow:

Christine Shea: Evaluation Systems Division of Pearson Educational Measurement, Amherst, MA
Polly Parker: University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA
Zachary Smith: Connecticut Department of Education in Hartford, CT
Nina Deng: CTB/McGraw-Hill in Monterey, CA
Tie Liang: ACT, Inc. in Iowa City, IA
Leah Kaira: Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ
Wendy Lam: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ewing NJ
In addition, four graduate students have accepted positions in the Center for Educational Assessment for 2008 summer internships: Jenna Copella, Hanwook Yu, Yu Meng, and Jeff Patton.

According to Professor Ronald Hambleton, "These summer internships are an integral part of a student's doctoral program at the University of Massachusetts. Our goal is to secure summer internships for all graduate students during their studies because these internships provide aspiring professionals in the measurement, statistics, and policy fields with opportunities that simply can't be obtained through course work, research, and project opportunities during the school year. Students get a chance to apply knowledge and skills learned during the school year in new contexts, learn many new skills, and also determine what they don't know which gives them some direction for what they need to work on when they return to begin the fall semester. The extra funding that can be earned during the summer also comes in handy. We are especially pleased that our students are highly competitive for these internship opportunities."
