Careers in Measurement

The increasing emphasis in the United States and abroad on technically sound educational research, assessment, and evaluation at the local, state, and national levels has created many career opportunities for graduates of the Program.

Presently, there is a high demand for persons with excellent skills in the areas of psychometric and statistical methods in the U.S. and abroad. The University of Massachusetts Research and Evaluation Methods Program is ranked among the outstanding measurement and statistics programs in the country and has been for over 20 years.

Graduates of REMP are heavily recruited by university, research, testing, and educational institutions because they receive both excellent theoretical and practical training in psychometric methods, statistics, and research methods. The Program's graduate students become quickly familiar with emerging issues in assessment, and they have many opportunities while being graduate students at UMass to work with faculty members on international, national, and state projects and technical papers.

Graduates of REMP have accepted research and teaching positions at universities and colleges, have accepted research positions with projects at universities and private foundations, and accepted positions in research organizations, the armed services, government and credentialing agencies, medical boards, school systems, educational consulting firms, and private industry. Foreign students return to their own countries to become leaders in state and national departments of education, and teach and conduct research in university positions.
