Massachusetts Comprehensive
Assessment System (MCAS) Research and Validity Studies
Since the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System began assessing
students in 1998, the Research and Evaluation Methods Program has had a contract
with the Massachusetts Department of Education to carry out research and
validity studies. With the recent signing of a new contract, this work will
continue for another five years. This contract has provided graduate students
in the program with the opportunity to participate in large-scale equating
initiatives and conduct equating research, and carry out content and construct
validity studies, item bias analyses, score reporting studies, and many other
measurement related types of studies. More than 30 research papers and reports
have been written.
