The Item Response Theory: Principles and Applications Workshop, led by University of Massachusetts Amherst / Research and Evaluation Methods program (REMP) faculty members, will be held from Monday, July 28, to Friday, August 1, 2008 in Amherst, Massachusetts. The goal of the workshop is to provide attendees with the background and understanding they will need of unidimensional IRT models and related procedures for handling binary and polytomous response data to carry out procedures to solve a variety of applied problems in assessment and testing.
The cost for the five-day workshop is $900, and includes extensive workshop materials, UMass software for data simulation, equating, model fit, two meals a day for five days, and a reception and a conference dinner. Attendance will be limited to 30 persons.

As part of ongoing work on a USAID project involved in enhancing the educational assessment skills in Indonesia, the Center for Educational Assessment's Professor Craig Wells will be traveling to Indonesia this June to present a series of workshops there. The goal of the project is to increase Indonesia's capacity in educational assessment expertise as part of their national educational improvement efforts.
REMP faculty, staff, and students will be busy this summer at the III International Conference on Methodology in Oviedo, Spain (July 8-12) and the 6th Conference of the International Test Commission in Liverpool, England (July 14-16).
The Research and Evaluation Methods Program is pleased to announce that seven doctoral students from the program have been selected for 2008 summer internships by agencies involved in psychometric methods and measurement policy.
The Research and Evaluation Methods Program and Center for Educational Assessment at UMass-Amherst are pleased to note the graduations of Dr. Robert R. Keller, Dr. Su G. Baldwin, Dr. Peter Baldwin, Dr. Kyung T. Han, and Dr. Yue Zhao.
The 2008 Graduate Commencement will take place on Friday, May 23, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mullins Center at UMass-Amherst.
REMP's Professor Craig S. Wells has been named School Of Education Outstanding Teacher for 2007-2008. While classroom teaching is the fundamental criterion, this award also actively values supervision of field/clinical experiences, supervision of research, and mentoring professional publications and presentations.
