Presenters: Kevin Hodgson— Western Massachusetts Writing Project, Norris Elementary School, Southampton
Mary Farrin — Michael E. Smith Middle School, South Hadley
Christina Cantrill – National Writing Project Program Associate in Technology
Description: Multimedia technology has expanded the possibilities for students to show what they have learned in various subject areas in ways that remain anchored to the philosophy that we "write as a way to learn." In this workshop presentation, sixth grade teacher Kevin Hodgson will focus on the creation of original multimedia math and science picture books that combine fiction writing and content-area learning. Fifth grade teacher Mary Farrin will focus on digital stories that combine elements of the Social Studies and English Language Arts curriculum. National Writing Project Program Associate in Technology Christina Cantrill will frame the workshop by discussing findings through the NWP Technology Initiative which supported technology in the writing classroom and professional development for teachers.
Hodgson and Farrin will illustrate classroom-based assessments -- formal and informal -- that guide students throughout their work and discuss how these digital projects link to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. |
