Description: In this interactive session, we will view student work from a second grade photography and writing project from Lawrence, Massachusetts. We will discuss the students’ writing and photographs about themselves and their toys to discover what we can learn about students’ identities, their interests and values, their use of language, and their cultures. We will then articulate ways that the work can be assessed beyond the standard formulas and discuss the benefits of these new forms and ideas of assessment. Participants will then write their own self-portraits using prompts that are applicable to students of all ages. |
