Description: Speaker 1 will describe how her discomfort and research about rubrics put her at odds with "best practice" and district mandates, and show how she attempted to negotiate the disconnect between what she knew and what she was expected to do. Speaker 2 will explore the kinds of authority high school teachers can claim in public discussions of assessment when policy discourse positions them as compliant practitioners, but not as critical professionals. The outcomes and implications of such resistance will be discussed.
