Directions to the OWM:

From the South/Southwest
  • Take Interstate 91 North to Exit 19
  • Right at bottom of ramp onto Bridge and Rt. 9 East
  • Follow Rt. 9 East for 5 miles
  • Turn left onto Rt. 116 N. (Staples is on right, signs say UMass Amherst)
  • Follow Rt. 116 for one mile and take UMass Amherst (first) exit
  • Right at end of ramp onto Massachusetts Ave.
  • Go strait through the blinking yellow lights (about ¼ mile) and take a left at the next traffic light onto Commonwealth Ave. (Athletic field and Mullins Center on left)
  • Stay strait through 2 sets of lights, crossing over North Pleasant St. onto Eastman Lane. (You will see brick dormitories on both sides of road as you climb Eastman Lane hill)
  • At the stop sign (1- ¾ miles from turn onto Com. Ave.) at top of hill, cross over East Pleasant St. onto Tillson Farm Rd. (Look for maroon sign for Waste Recovery and Transfer Facility on right and Fire Station on left)
  • Recycling Facility (WRTF) is second building on the right about .2 mile. There is a tall flagpole and the WRTF is surrounded by chain link fence. Pull up alongside modular office and ask for help.
From the North/Northwest
  • Take Interstate 91 South to Exit 25
  • Go left off the ramp onto Rt. 116 South to the intersection with Rts. 5 &10
  • Turn right onto Rt. 5 & 10 South
  • Go approximately one mile, then left at traffic light onto Rt. 116 South
  • Stay straight approxinately 1 mile to the Sunderland Bridge
  • From the blue bridge over the Connecticut River, it is 8 miles to the University exit on Rt. 116 South
  • Take the UMass Amherst exit (on right) and go left onto Massachusetts Ave.
  • Go strait through the blinking yellow lights and take a left at the next traffic light onto Commonwealth Ave. (Athletic field and Mullins Center on left)

From East/Northeast
  • Route West from Gardner, Boston and points east. Take Rt. 202 South -Exit 18 towards Amherst
  • Follow 202 South for approximately 20 minutes and go right at blinking yellow light onto Pelham Rd. (country store with bright red roof will be right before turn)
  • Follow Pelham Rd. to bottom of hill in Amherst and the intersection with Northeast St. Stay strait for 1/2 mile
  • Take second right after the railroad tracks onto Triangle street. Brunos Restaurant will be on your left before the turn
  • Follow Triangle St. about 1 mile to the traffic light/4 way intersection (Bank of America is on right) and go right onto East Pleasant St.
  • Follow E. Pleasant St. for about 3/4 mile and go right onto Tillson Farm Rd. (N. Amherst Fire Station is at the corner of Tillson and East Pleasant St. (Look for maroon sign for Waste Recovery and Transfer Facility on your right)

From the East/Southeast (from points east, Boston, Worcester and Cape)
  • Follow Mass.Turnpike West to Exit 6 for Interstate 91 North. (45 minutes west from Worcester)
  • Take Interstate 91 North to Exit 19
