Politics Today RAP – Fall 2008

This RAP offers an exciting and timely opportunity for a group of 30 first-year students to take a few classes together which will facilitate the process of monitoring and analyzing the upcoming presidential election! Politics Today RAP is intended for students declared in any major or undeclared.

Whether you're a newcomer to American Politics and simply want to learn more about how the system works, or have been following election results for months while debating family and friends as to why your candidate should win, then this RAP is for you!

Politics Today RAP students will combine with students from an honors section of this RAP together in a one-credit seminar. This seminar will give you an opportunity to examine and discuss the events as the country prepares for the November presidential election.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick visits the Amherst Area

When you join this RAP you will…

  •   Take a unique 1-credit seminar “Front Page” that explores current political topics and the various ways they are covered in the media.
  • Share your living-and-learning experience with other curious and committed students interested in American political issues.
  • Make connections with seminar and faculty leaders and determine if you are interested in a major or minor related to politics.
  • Discover a variety of ways to ‘be involved' in politics regardless of your academic area of study.

Classes

  In the Fall semester, students will enroll in the following classes (small section taught in the residential area):

  • American Politics (PoliSci 101)
  • Front Page Seminar (Honors 397F)

In the Spring semester, students will enroll in

  • English Writing 112 – College Writing in the residential area

Location

Students will live together in Webster Hall in Orchard Hill area of campus.
