Psychology TAP

The Psychology department offers a Talent Advanced Program (TAP) for a select group of students admitted into this major. TAPs are specialized academic learning communities that are offered by invitation only, based on criteria set by the department. TAPs provide first-year students with a variety of opportunities for a successful transition to the academic and social life at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

For example, students who choose to participate in the Psychology TAP (PSYCH TAP) will:
  1. Live together in the John Adams Tower in the Southwest Residential Area of campus.
  2. Enroll in a section of College Writing 112 and Psychology 100 - both of which are taught in the residential area.
  3. Enroll in a 1-credit Psychology seminar with other PSYCH TAP students.
  4. Meet faculty members "up close and personal" through a variety of academic opportunities offered by the department.

If you were invited to this program, please be sure to read all of the information in the letter from Professor Lucille Halgin. We also encourage you to read the numerous comments from previous PSYCH TAP students and letters from current PSYCH TAP students, referred to as "Student Ambassadors" linked below.

Remember to attend to the timelines and procedures to join this program!!
For additional information about TAPs, please refer to the TAP index and TAP FAQs. Thanks!
