The Professional Writing and Technical Communication Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst provides practice in professional research and editing, grant writing, software and hardware documentation, report writing and business communications; supplies hands-on training in a range of industry-standard software; and offers an ongoing forum for the study and critique of theories and practices of information design.

Since 1990 the program has enjoyed nearly 100 percent placement in writing and editing positions.

So that we might not only sustain the program, but build upon it, we have in mind two goals. First, we would like to upgrade the PWTC Lab with state-of-the-art wiring, furnishings and lighting, making it the thoroughly professional writing environment that our students deserve. Second, we would like to fully endow the Scott Jeffrey Fund so that interest on the principle is sufficient to fund the annual award.
