| Engineering/Pre-Engineering Education Activities |
Engineering Pathways Mapping Project -- PV STEMNET is preparing a guide of pathways to engineering and technical careers in the Valley. It will help parents, guidance counselors, students and teachers -- and especially women and other underrepresented in STEM careers -- to understand and make informed choices about available opportunities.
Career Fairs -- Three career fairs were held for high school and middle school students in the Pioneer Valley. The Engineering Pathways Career Fairs were organized by the Tri-County Tech Prep Consortium, Tech Prep 21, and the UMass College of Engineering. |
| Activities for K-12 Students |
Explorations in Science and Engineering -- Western New England College offered a program of six Saturday presentations for middle and high school students in Springfield. Topics included math, the sciences, and mechanical, electrical and bio- engineering.
Summer Enrichment Activities -- PV STEMNET coordinated summer activities for middle and high school students at Smith College, Springfield College, and Greenfield Community College. Students learned about engineering and technical fields through hands-on experiences with scientists and engineers. |
| Activities for K-12 Teachers |
Summer Content and Pedagogy Institutes for Teachers -- Three workshops were offered to K-12 teachers at Westfield State College, Smith College, and UMass Amherst College of Engineering (CEE WORLD). They focused on teaching engineering at the middle and high school levels.
Academic Year Seminars -- The UMass STEM Ed Institute hosts bi-monthly seminars on STEM education for K-12 and college teachers . It also co-hosts with the UMass College of Engineering a series of Saturday Science and Engineering workshops for teachers. |
