| 21 alumni serve as legislators
by Daniel
J. Fitzgibbons, Chronicle staff
ith the opening of a new legislative session,
the number of Amherst campus alumni serving in the state House of
Representatives and Senate has dropped from 24 last year to 21 this
year.
The drop was all on
the House side, as Nancy Flavin of Easthampton and Christopher Hodgkins
of Lee vacated their seats and Ruth Provost of Sandwich lost reelection.
The number will drop again when Rep. Joseph Sullivan (D-Braintree)
resigns to become director of the Lottery.
The alumni senators,
all Democrats, are Stephen Brewer of Barre, Guy Glodis of Worcester,
David Magnani of Framingham, Richard Moore of Uxbridge, Michael
Morrissey of Quincy, Andrea Nuciforo of Pittsfield, Marc Pacheco
of Taunton and Stan Rosenberg of Amherst.
In the House, Lewis
Evangelidis, '84, is the newly elected Republican representative
from Holden. The other alumni representatives are Paul Frost of
Auburn, Thomas George of Yarmouthport, Shaun Kelly of Dalton, Stephen
Kulik of Worthington, Jim Marzilli, Jr. of Arlington, George Peterson
of Grafton, Thomas Petrolati of Ludlow, Kathi-Anne Reinstein of
Revere, Marie St. Fleur of Boston, Benjamin Swan of Springfield
and Joseph Wagner of Chicopee. Frost, George, Kelly and Peterson
are Republicans.
Rep. Ellen Story
(D-Amherst) is an honorary alumna.
