Two A&F officials quit

Daly named interim Physical Plant director

A ssociate vice chancellor for Facilities and Campus Services Ted Weidner and Physical Plant director Earl Smith resigned during the past week, according to Joyce Hatch, interim vice chancellor for Administration and Finance.

Weidner, who was appointed two years ago, left Nov. 15 to "pursue consulting activities in his field," said Hatch. "We wish him well as he advances his career."

Before coming to UMass, Weidner served for nine years as director of facilities planning and management at Eastern Illinois University.

Hatch did not cite a reason for the departure of Smith, who was appointed to his post in 1995. Prior to assuming his position, Smith was director of the facilities maintenance service at Rutgers University for seven years.

In memos circulated to senior campus administrators and deans, Hatch said Pat Daly, associate director for Utilities and Building Maintenance, has been named interim director of Physical Plant.

The process to fill Weidner's post will begin "shortly," she added. Meanwhile, Physical Plant, Facilities Planning and Campus Services will report directly to Hatch.
