Five appointed to Board of Trustees by
governor

new trustees have been appointed in recent weeks by Acting Gov. Jane
Swift. The appointees are William F. Kennedy, Stacey Rainey, Robert
K. Sheridan, Ellen Zane and Dr. Timothy J. Babineau.
A resident of Quincy, Kennedy is an
attorney with Nutter, McClennen & Fish in Boston and former chief
of staff and legal counsel for House Speaker
Thomas Finneran. Kennedy is a graduate of the College of the Holy
Cross and Suffolk University Law School.
Rainey is former senior advisor and
deputy chief of staff to Swift. She lives in Boston and is a graduate
of Union College. Rainey also served as campaign manager for Swift's
run for governor, which was abandoned last spring.
Sheridan, who is a resident of Hingham,
is the chief executive officer of Savings Bank Life Insurance in Woburn.
He holds a B.A. from Boston College and a J.D. from Suffolk University
Law School.
Zane is network president for Partners
HealthCare System, Inc. She also lives in Hingham. She holds a B.A.
from George Washington University and an M.A. from the Catholic University
of America.
Babineau is a surgeon at Boston Medical
Center and associate professor of surgery at Boston University School
of Medicine. A resident of Hingham, he is a graduate of the College
of the Holy Cross and the UMass Medical School. He also holds an M.B.A.
from Boston University.
President William M. Bulger welcomed
the newest board appointments. "These dedicated citizens will
add invaluable skills, knowledge and experience to an already impressive
Board of Trustees. Their willingness to devote time and energy to
public service is commendable. They will make a significant contribution
to the success of the University of Massachusetts system."
Grace Fey, who chairs the board, said,
"The addition of these five talented professionals to our board
will make us significantly stronger as we contend with the challenges
facing the state's public higher education system. Our new members
bring sound judgment and tremendous expertise to the board."
The newly appointed trustees replace
Heriberto Flores of Springfield, Dr. Michael Foley of Arlington, John
Naughton of Long-meadow, Charles Hoff of York Beach, Maine, and Christy
Mihos of Cohasset.
