Scholarship honors alumna killed at WTC
he University and its foundation have agreed to establish
a memorial scholarship fund honoring the memory of alumna Jessica
Leigh Sachs, '01, who died when the plane she was traveling in was
flown into the World Trade Center last September.
A former employee of
PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sachs is being memorialized for her community
involvement, leadership, academic achievement and classroom contributions.
One sophomore and one junior in Accounting each year will be chosen
for exhibiting similar characteristics and awarded a PricewaterhouseCoopers
Jessica Leigh Sachs Memorial Scholarship. Winners will be chosen
by the Isenberg School of Management. The company initiated the
fund with a $125,000 gift. Additional gifts to the fund will be
accepted through the UMass Foundation, subject to approval by the
University and the foundation.
"They have so many
of our ... graduates who work there," said James Mallet, director
of Development in the Isenberg School of Management, of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
"Jessica was an
outstanding student here and this is a wonderful way to honor her
memory and to help students who are striving to attain that level
of excellence."
