CE instructors reach accord
he Graduate Employees Organization (GEO), a unit of United Auto
Workers Local 2322, announced Monday that it has reached a tentative
contract agreement with the University for graduate instructors
in Continuing Education.
The tentative agreement, which includes
pay increases of approximately 26.5 percent over two years, needs
to be voted on by union membership, according to a GEO press release.
The number of students enrolled in a course will determine instructor
compensation. A course with average enrollment previously paid $2,530,
and in two years, the same-sized course would pay $3,200, according
to the release. Graduate students teach approximately 300 courses
per year in Continuing Education.
Additional benefits in the proposed contract include a course-cancellation
payment, providing graduate instructors with $500 for their preparation
efforts when a course is canceled "at the last moment,"
and health and tuition benefits. Instructors also will be included
in the development of appointment and reappointment policies.
