Obituaries

Katherine O'Rourke

Katherine G. O'Rourke, 89, of Amherst, a retired institution domestic aide in the Dining Commons, died June 17 in Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

She served the University for nearly 17 years before retiring in 1981.
She previously had worked as a pediatric nurse at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Her husband, Richard Francis O'Rourke, died earlier.

She leaves a son, Richard Griffin O'Rourke, a skilled laborer in Physical Plant, of Amherst; a daughter, Patricia O'Rourke Gould of Amherst; a brother and sister, and two grandchildren.

Stephen Dobachewski

Stephen Dobachewski, 87, of Martinez, Ga., a retired working maintenance foreman in Physical Plant, died June 20 in Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

He served the University as a tree surgeon for nearly 18 years before retiring in 1983. He had worked earlier for Franklin Tree Service.

During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, attaining the rank of coxswain.

He attended school in Newton and lived in Turners Falls between 1938 and 1985, where he was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption
An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves, he was also a sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

His first wife, Wanda (Kania) Dobachewski, died in 1944.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Grace Dobachewski; two sisters, and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
