Pregnant women sought for Exercise Science
study
Researchers in the Department of Exercise Science
are seeking pregnant women (in all trimesters) for participation
in a study to validate a physical activity questionnaire. Participation
requires two visits to campus where the wearing of an activity
monitor for one week and questionnaires will be completed.
Participants will receive $50.
For more information, call 5-1583 or send an e-mail
(droberts@excsci.umass.edu).
Office & Classroom Supplies now called Paper
Products
Paper Products is the new name for the Office &
Classroom Supplies (OCS) Department, according to Sam Welson,
manager of Office 2 Office. Welson said the new name more accurately
reflects the streamlined product line which includes white and
colored office papers (40 colors in all), envelopes, computer
paper, test forms and booklets.
The revised product selection at Paper Products
allows the department staff to concentrate its efforts on purchasing
and delivering office papers to campus departments in the best
and most cost effective way, while allowing departments to take
advantage of a much wider selection of office products
at very competitive prices through University and MHEC contracts.
It is recommended that to receive the best prices,
departments purchase general office supplies from Corporate Express
and computer and printer supplies such as toner cartridges from
G A Blanco. Copier paper and other products available from Paper
Products should be ordered exclusively from Paper Products because
of overall cost effectiveness to the campus and University policy.
Customers can contact Eileen Sousa at 5-3071 for
an updated Paper Products catalog and for any questions or assistance
in placing orders with Corporate Express or G A Blanco.
Address information on packages and freight
Distribution Services (formerly Campus Distribution
Services or CDS) requests that all packages and freight shipments
destined for campus departments include the building name and
room number that the package or freight is being delivered to
on the package labels as part of the delivery address.
It is requested that campus departments tell suppliers
that the room number and building is required each time that goods
are being ordered, because this information often does not exist
in suppliers' "ship to" databases and boiler plate documents
and therefore will not be included on packages unless it is specifically
requested.
Departments may contact Eileen Sousa at 5-3071 for
additional information regarding this request.

American in Bloom judging set for late July
Judges from a national beautification program will
arrive on campus next month to assess the University's efforts
to improve the landscape and promote community pride.
The campus is involved in America in Bloom, a friendly
competition that recognizes and rewards participating communities,
according to Pamela Monn, manager of Landscape and Construction
Services at Physical Plant. The University's participation is
sponsored by the Campus Beautification Committee, Grounds Management
Department, the Adopt-a-Planter Program and the College of Food
and Natural Resources.
Monn said America in Bloom objectives are:
To improve the visual appeal of neighborhoods, parks,
open spaces and streets through imaginative use of flowers, plants
and trees;
To encourage involvement and coordinated action
by citizens of all ages, municipal governments, local organizations
and businesses; and
To emphasize environmental awareness and preservation
of heritage and culture as key parts of the program.
"America in Bloom is more than just a beauty
contest," said Monn. "Specially trained, qualified judges
volunteer their time to travel across the country during the summer
to evaluate participating communities" on eight critera:
landscapes, community involvement, trees, tidiness, heritage,
floral displays, environmental awareness and turf and open spaces."
According to Monn, the judges are scheduled to arrive
on July 28 and conduct evaluations on the following day.
The Boston suburb of Winchester is the closest competition
in the campus's cate-gory, said Monn, who is urging all Adopt-a-Planter
participants to give it their best effort.
Notify Chronicle of circulation changes
Due to the large number of retirements and other
staffing changes across campus, some departments and offices may
need to adjust the number of copies of The Campus Chronicle received
each week.
Each departmental bundle carries a label specifying
how many copies should be delivered. Send circulation changes
to The Campus Chronicle, 205 Munson Hall or call 5-4818. Changes
may also be e-mailed (campus.chronicle@urd.umass.edu).
Note the building, the current number of papers received and the
number desired.
