Lombardi chosen as new chancellor
In an unexpected announcement, President William M. Bulger said Wednesday that he is appointing former University of Florida president John V. Lombardi to be the next chancellor of the Amherst campus.

Fund-raising key to future success, says new leader
Big-time, major league fund-raising" is needed to move the University to a "higher level of quality" that cannot be achieved by dependence on state support, according to John V. Lombardi, who was appointed this week as the campus's next chancellor.

Child care services extended for another year
The University has revised its planned child care offerings for the coming fiscal year, according to an April 5 announcement by interim Chancellor Marcellette G. Williams and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life Javier Cevallos.

The Department of Computer Science ranks 25th in the U.S. and sixth in the field of artificial intelligence in the U.S. News & World Report's 2003 rankings of "America's Best Graduate Schools" released this week.
