Search begins for new women's basketball coach

 national search for a new women's basketball coach is underway, according to athletic director Bob Marcum, who appointed a three-member search committee before spring break.

     Elaine Sortino, associate athletic director for Sports Programs and Students Services, is chairing the panel, which also includes former men's basketball coach Jack Leaman and Jo-Anne Vanin, associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs and dean of students.

     The committee is seeking a replacement for Joanie O'Brien, whose contract was not renewed for next year.

     Over 11 seasons leading the Minutewomen, O'Brien amassed a record of 159-159, including NCAA tournament appearances in 1996 and 1998 and a Women's National Invitational Tournament berth in 1995.
