Music faculty perform at Kennedy Center

azz in July instructor Billy Taylor teamed with Music professors Estela Olevsky and Jeff Holmes for two concerts last week at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.

     The shows are part of a series, "Billy Taylor Jazz at the Kennedy Center," which is running through the 2001-02 season. Taylor and guest artists talk about their music, answer audience questions, and show how jazz is created.

     Holmes performed Dec. 3 with Taylor, showcasing his improvisational skills. Olevsky and Taylor conducted a demonstration of similarities and differences between jazz and classical music Dec. 4.

     Taylor and Olevsky also presented a program to 7th-12th graders Dec. 6 as part of an educational series.
