Nicole Letourneau, journalist and former legislative aide to Rep. John F. Merrigan, has joined the staff of the News Office as an associate news editor. Letourneau will cover the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, the School of Nursing, and Commonwealth College. Her primary responsibility will be to place positive stories about University faculty, research, and programs in the local, regional, and national press.

Letourneau worked for Merrigan for two years, handling press relations and constituent concerns, as well as assisting in developing legislation and public policy. Before that, she was State House bureau chief for the Union-News and Sunday Republican, having begun her career at the Springfield Newspapers as a general assignment reporter in 1994.

A native of Turners Falls, Letourneau is a graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va.
