Anderson to head space management
department at Yale
lizabeth
(Denis) Anderson, director of Space Management, will become the
new manager of space management and information at Yale University,
beginning Aug. 13. She will be providing comprehensive support to
the space management programs and will be directly responsible for
the university's space information system. Her last full day on
campus is July 27.
"She's played a
very key role in a difficult area," said Vice Chancellor for
Administration and Finance Paul Page. "Space is the last frontier,
so dealing with the fact that we're short of it is not the easiest
[way] to make people happy. She's had a particularly difficult assignment
and has handled it quite well. She's an asset that we're going to
miss."
A Chancellor's Citation
recipient in 1997, Anderson has served the University for 21 years,
joining the Office of Space Management 18 years ago. During her
tenure, the campus developed a comprehensive space management system
and designed a complementary set of computerized tools. She was
instrumental in the creation of a full set of classroom and class
laboratory utilization reports, office and research space studies,
the expansion of the space inventory reports, and she oversaw the
creation and upkeep of a full set of AutoCAD floor plans for the
campus. These software tools and CAD plans have been used by the
University for numerous special projects including the full University
and various departmental accreditation reviews, the new TelCom system,
the campus ADA study, the Facilities Condition Audit, and Animal
Care reporting, among others.
Recently she was responsible
for the redesign and conversion of the software to Oracle 8I and
its subsequent copyright on behalf of the University.
Anderson received the
Chancellor's Citation for her work in developing these software
tools and for the subsequent use of the Space Needs Assessment Model
to provide overall space needs and background information for specific
projects. This included developing space needs for the pre-design
programs used in space re-use, renovation, new construction and
property acquisition projects, including the Conte Polymer Research
Center, Mullins Center, Knowles Building, the Computer Science Building,
the Engineering Laboratory Building, the Isenberg School of Management
addition, the alumni center, the Continuing Education Building,
and the Polymer Science, Continuing Education and Computer Science
backfill plans.
She has served on a
number of committees and boards such as the Faculty Senate Space
and Calendar Committee, the Architectural Access Board, and numerous
building committees. She also helped develop the ADA Transition
Plan and a full classroom and class laboratory study.
Last year Anderson was
awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Society for College
and University Planning, recognizing her role as a faculty member
in the SCUP National Space Management Workshops. She has been active
in SCUP for years, serving on the regional council as membership
coordinator and currently as vice chair of the national membership
committee. She has been a presenter, panel participant and special
interest group leader at both SCUP and other national facilities
conferences.
She received her
undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University in 1973, was
elected into both the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honorary
societies and has taken a number of graduate courses. She has been
involved in several civil organizations, including serving as chairman
of the board and president of the corporation of First Call for
Help in Amherst, and has been an active member of North Congregational
Church.
